Final Phase of Sachem’s Path Begins

The foundations of several Sachem’s Path homes were laid last month as construction began in earnest on the second phase of the Nantucket project. When complete, there will be a total of 40 homes for the island’s workforce. HAC completed the first 15 last spring; each of those finished homes are fully occupied. HAC is now moving forward with 22 additional homes that it will build as part of the final phase of Sachem’s Path. The remaining three homes are being built by Habitat for Humanity Nantucket. Crews are also installing trenches for the utilities that will service each of the homes....

Sachem’s Path Lottery a Gift to 22 Nantucket Residents

Just five days before Christmas, 22 Nantucket residents received what was undoubtedly one of the greatest gifts of the season – the promise of a new home. Those residents had their names drawn during a lottery held last month to determine the homeowners for Phase 2 of Sachem’s Path, an affordable housing development being built by HAC for the island’s workforce. When complete, the project will bring a total of 40 homes to Nantucket with HAC responsible for 37 of those and Habitat for Humanity Nantucket building the remaining three homes. Phase 2 Lottery Date Set

The lottery for the second and final phase of Sachem's Path will take place on Thursday, December 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, in the cafeteria of Nantucket High School. The lottery will determine the homeowners for the remaining 22 homes that are being built by Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) as part of Sachem's Path. Staff at HAC have reviewed all applications to determine income and asset eligibility. Letters are being sent out this week letting applicants know whether or not they are eligible for the Phase 2 lottery. The lottery will draw the names of winners as well as alternates....

HAC Prepares for Sachem’s Path Lottery

Early next year, 22 Nantucket residents will be on their way to becoming homeowners when HAC holds its second, and final, lottery for Sachem’s Path. Currently, staff in HAC’s Cape Community Real Estate (CCRE) department is reviewing lottery applications to determine the eligibility of residents who submitted one to own a Sachem’s Path home. One week prior to the November 4 deadline, HAC had received 55 applications and was anticipating more to come in the ensuing days. Don’t Disqualify Yourself

If you make approximately $50,000 and $150,000 per year, you may be eligible to own a Sachem's Path home. Making the Impossible Possible on Nantucket

If any Nantucket residents had uncertainties about applying for a Sachem’s Path home, they were alleviated by three current residents of the island neighborhood who showed up to an information session at Nantucket High School last month. The three assured potential lottery applicants that the opportunity is worth all the effort. Free First-Time Homebuyer Class in October

Housing Nantucket will be offering a free First-Time Homebuyer Workshop in October, courtesy of the Tupancy-Harris Foundation. The classes will be held on Nantucket on Wednesday, October 5; Wednesday October 12; and Wednesday, October 19, from 6-9 pm each day. Those interested in registering can do so by clicking this link. While those interested in becoming a Sachem's Path homeowner are not obligated to attend a First-Time Homebuyer class, it is strongly encouraged as the workshop is a requirement for many of the mortgage products people will be using to purchase a home.

Block Party Celebrates Affordable Housing on Nantucket

Over the months when their new home was being constructed, Rachel Dixon used to drive by with her children, Tory and Rex, to see the progress. They would gleefully acknowledge the installation of walls and windows, as the house slowly took form.
